The Wall Street Journal is looking for a senior editor to be on the leadership team for U.S. coverage. The Deputy U.S. Coverage Chief will play a key role in running a talented team of national correspondents and editors who cover major news across the country. Topics include politics, economic development, immigration, transportation, housing, law and education.
The ideal candidate will identify high-impact stories and issues for us to cover, and will be responsible for helping to direct our fast-breaking news coverage from coast to coast. The deputy will conceptualize ambitious storytelling for all platforms, and work to make sure we're reaching our readers in creative and effective ways.
The editor will also work shepherding investigative work that's at the heart of roll-up-your-sleeves local reporting. The ability to work across bureaus and mentor reporters is a must.
Help conceive, prioritize and drive news and enterprise coverage.
Edit news and enterprise stories, sharpening and rewriting when necessary.
Work closely with reporters to ensure that stories include all of the necessary elements and meet WSJ standards.
Ensure that story packages are properly packaged with text, visuals, video, inset boxes for related articles or twitter, timelines, etc., and ensure the packages are optimized for mobile audiences.
Ensure that all components are of the highest quality, adhere to WSJ standards and are ready for publication as a complete article page.
Ensure the timely and coordinated publication of all coverage area story packages.
Inspire our journalists to produce their best work on all platforms.
